Private Client Services

Our Private Client Department offers services to help the private individual with their affairs.

Our range of services includes:

  1. Wills – Often the preparation of a will can be daunting. We can guide you though the process and help you to make any difficult decisions along the way.
  2. Taxation – We have assisted clients with a wide range of inheritance tax concerns. We can explain the tax rules in everyday language to help you make the right decision for you and your family.
  3. Trusts – We offer expert advice on trusts, which remain a useful tool for tax planning and also to overcome particular problems, such as the protection of finances for a handicapped child or to protect assets for children following a second marriage.
  4. Administration of estates . We have plenty of experience in obtaining probate of a will, administering the estate, paying out to the beneficiaries and dealing with any tax issues.
  5. Intestacy – When someone dies without a valid will the rules of intestacy apply. We can guide you through the law in this area.
  6. The Court of Protection and Public Guardianship Office – oversee the financial welfare of people who become incapable of managing their affairs. We have expertise in the appointment of a Deputy to manage the person’s affairs as well as enduring and lasting powers of attorney. We can also help with the day to day financial management of a person’s affairs, particularly if there are no members of the family to do this.
  7. Property work – We would refer residential property matters to our Property Department. However, we do have expertise in all types of property work, including the division and reorganisation of estates, gifts and inheritance of property and agricultural property. James de Ferrars and Helen Davies are able to give advice on technical property problems such as rights of way, loss of deeds, the division and sale of a farm and buildings.
  8. Nursing Fees – the payment of nursing fees is of particular concern to many people. We can advise on your potential liability for this and how to organise your affairs appropriately.
For further information please contact James de Ferrars or Val Edmonds on 01566 772451 or call in to see us at our offices in Launceston Town Centre.
